The idea started in 1923
when August Thisius
began a logging mill in the Yakima area. He
needed roads to access the timber; so John
Morgan (August's son-in-law) saw an opportunity
and decided to start building roads. He bought
a Gas 30 Caterpillar and an old road grader and
went to work. Soon they were able to buy a D-4
Cat, owning the first dozer tractor in the
Yakima Valley.
By 1944 John had an International truck, a D-6
Cat, a D-7 Cat, a ripper, a scraper, and an old
road grader. In 1957, J.P. Morgan, his son,
decided to become a part of the partnership.
They formed a legal partnership and Morgan &
Son Earthmoving, Inc. began with John providing
the equipment and J.P Morgan leveling the land
for farmers.
In 1969, J.P. Morgan bought out John and the
company started building roads for Boise
Cascade. During this time, they were able to
purchase a
brush
blade to pile logging slash and soon a new D-8
Cat.
As the company's reputation increased, they soon
found themselves owning a front-end loader and
eight pickup trucks, and working on every
mountain in the Kittitas Valley, the Yakima
Valley, and from Sunnyside to Wenatchee.
Since that time, Morgan & Son Earthmoving, Inc. has increased in expertise and skill. J.P. and Helen Morgan owned the company until April 1, 2006 when his son, Dan Morgan, and daughter, Laurie Morgan Bender, officially took ownership. They have been actively involved in many different projects and services, and are pleased to have such a fine history behind them.
